The importance of guiding our millennials to success – G’s Fresh

Millennials are the generation of people now in their young adulthood. Roughly aged between 25 and 34. Millennials make up 13.9% of the total UK population and the unemployment rate for millennials is low at around 4.5%. Now more than ever recruiting and retaining the best people is a key priority to forward thinking, successful and ambitious companies.

G’s, with its head office near Ely in Cambridgeshire is at the forefront of modern food production and is an attractive place to work. It’s fast-paced, stimulating and rewarding but not a company to take its growing workforce for granted.

Always seen as leaders in its career development, 2018 has seen the launch of its ‘Early Careers’ training programme. The programme helps all new employees (mostly millennials) learn how to succeed in work and how to look after their personal health and wellbeing.

Since 2013 G’s have partnered with the award-winning health and wellbeing company Let’s Get Healthy who have designed a 1-day training course and online game for all employees on the Early Career’s programme.

To kick off the programme up to 75 employees within Early Careers were given the opportunity to take part in interactive workshops which focused on the:

  • Importance of maintaining focus
  • Personal resilience to living in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Energy to work in a physically and mentally demanding sector
  • Ability to embrace and thrive through change

Beverly Dixon, Group HR and Health and Safety Group Director, says “G’s offers all staff a place to learn and grow and we have always strived to offer everyone the opportunity to learn how to improve their own personal health and wellbeing. We want to attract and retain a diverse, energised workforce and the workshops and online game are a great way to do this. Let’s Get Healthy are long term partners and understand our sector well and the teams always love the sessions.”

G’s, supply all the major UK and many European retailers with fresh, tasty, healthy salads and vegetables They are continually investing and innovating; striving to stay ahead of consumer trends. They have gone through rapid growth and now have 1,500 permanent UK employees which increases to 3,500 over the summer. This increase is also mirrored in their Spanish operation.
