The fifth pint
If you’re ever short of content for a public speaking event, please can I recommend the National Archives (https://beta.nationalarchives.gov.uk/explore-the-collection/explore-by-topic/health-and-welfare/nhs-posters-and-leaflets/)
So interesting to see what we used to think and do for public health …..and always a great source for visuals !
It’s sometimes good to look back, many leaders are so busy looking forward, pushing through change, planning for the future, and before they know it they’ve crept into the burnout zone, started to lose confidence, motivation and their willingness to change blunted.
Looking back is so important, not only can it help to boost your confidence (by reflecting on what you have achieved), teach you important lessons (there’s so much to be learnt from our successes, mistakes, challenges), and shape your goals.
The public health poster attached reassures me that we have made progress, we’ve learnt (in some instances) from previous mistakes, we’re moving forward.
So as a leader, take a beat, take a breath, think about your past, note what you have learnt, where you have been brilliant, celebrate and move on.
