Women’s right to a healthy future; World Diabetes Day 2017
Today is World Diabetes Day, and this year the focus is on Women and Diabetes. This is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries.
Did you know:
- There are currently over 199 million women living with diabetes
- Women with type 2 diabetes are almost 10 times as likely to have Coronary heart disease than those without the condition
- Women with diabetes have more difficulty conceiving and this may have poor pregnancy outcomes
- As much as 70% of cases for type 2 diabetes can be prevented by engaging in a healthy lifestyle
Healthy eating habits can help in the prevention against diabetes, with women being the main implementer of household nutrition and often school and workplace nutrition, they have the potential to drive prevention.
