Common myths about grief
As employers, we need to prepare our managers to help those affected by grief, whether they be working at home or in their workplace.
Grieving is a highly individual experience; there’s no right or wrong way to grieve. There are some myths that managers need to be aware of so they can help others and themselves:
Common myths
· It’s important to ‘be strong’ in time of loss – not true
· The pain will go away if you ignore it and stay busy – not helpful
· Moving on with your life means forgetting about your loss – not at all true
We all need to accept that grief can trigger many different and unexpected emotions, it is a unique feeling, we should seek out support from others and take care emotionally and physically.
