Getting ready for a faster paced world
Our mental health will need to be on top form in 2020. Early signs are that it will be busy, busy and even more change is coming down the path.
What could we start doing and practicing in 2019 to help us be mental energised?
Take mindful breaks. Whether it be a break in a meeting or a break in your work day, be deliberate about what you do in breaks.
Too many people use breaks as an opportunity to check in on work with colleagues in the staff room, check emails both are which is detrimental to our mental health for two reasons. Firstly, it doesn’t provide an opportunity for the information to settle and marinate in the mind from most recent activity. This hinders the transition of information from short-term to long-term memory. Secondly, it creates more mental clutter.
Instead, try and enjoy a mindful break, which could include a walk outside the building writing in a journal, or an opportunity to reflect on what has been great about your day so far.
