Sleep V exercise on a night

Sleep V exercise on a night

One of the most popular modules of our resilience and performance workshop ‘Be Your Best Self’, is learning about sleep.

Whether face to face or online, the question the Let’s Get Healthy team are always asked:

“Does exercise on an evening affect my sleep?”

Traditionally, the NHS have recommended not exercising at night as part of good sleep hygiene. In 2018 new research was released (Sports Medicine) and it suggests that you can exercise in the evening as long as you avoid vigorous activity for at least one hour before bedtime.

Getting regular exercise any time of the day can be added to your list of good sleep habits but avoid strenuous physical activity late in the evening.

In addition, you can get quality sleep by doing the following:

· Have a relaxing bedtime routine

· Turn off devices that give off light, such as the TV, computer, and phone, at least 45 minutes before bedtime

· Be sure your bed is comfortable, and your bedroom is dark, quiet, and cool

· Keeping our cute animals like cats and dogs….. off your bed! P.s. everybody always ignores this advice!
